Professor Sally Shortall – The agricultural industry: is the under-representation of women relevant?

This seminar draws on recent Scottish research looking at the role of women in agriculture. It examines some of the ways in which women are excluded from this occupation and how these social patterns exist. Often women’s under-representation is seen as a matter of gender inequality, and one that should be rectified on ideological grounds. But what about the industry? What are the implications of women not being centrally involved?

Professor Sally Shortall is the Duke of Northumberland Chair of Rural Economy, Centre for Rural Economy, Newcastle University.
